We cross-reference IMO numbers, MMSI, and vessel names to minimize false positives. Every match is scored with a risk level factoring in sanctions status, flag state, AIS dark periods, and STS transfer history.
We use AIS transponder data from multiple independent feeds, cross-referenced with SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite detections. This allows us to detect vessels that have disabled their AIS transponders -- a common sanctions evasion tactic known as "going dark."
